Discover Dartmoor this autumn- new location!

Visitors with reduced mobility can now explore the wild beauty of Dartmoor thanks to the new Tramper hire service at Postbridge Visitor Centre.

After many years of working together, we’re delighted that the partnership with Dartmoor National Park Authority has opened up this opportunity to explore in the very heart of Dartmoor.

Your Tramper adventure begins and ends at Postbridge Visitor Centre. Inside, you’ll find exhibitions and displays that bring the Dartmoor landscape to life, while the friendly staff are on hand to share their local knowledge.

The centre has accessible parking and an accessible toilet, and there’s also a picnic area if you’d like to bring lunch.

The Tramper is already making a real difference, with one visitor sharing how it allowed them to experience Dartmoor in a way that would otherwise have been out of reach:

“Being able to hire the newly acquired Tramper at Postbridge visitor centre was an absolute delight. Having Parkinson’s with much reduced mobility often means I have to miss out on experiencing these lovely places.

I hired the Tramper and was directed straight into the beautiful Bellever Forrest. I was given a map of suitable trails and an emergency contact phone which I could use to contact the visitor centre if I had any problems at all.

I felt safe at all times. It was a beautiful day and I was able to enjoy the beauty of the Forrest, lots of lovely bird song and the beautiful views across Dartmoor National Park.

None of this would have been possible without my membership of Countryside Mobility.”

It’s wonderful that the Tramper is making Dartmoor’s paths, forests and moorland more accessible.

Neil Warren, Countryside Mobility Strategic Manager, is delighted with this new addition to the hire network:

“For many years we’ve had a good choice of beautiful hire locations around the fringes of Dartmoor but this is the first time visitors will be able to hire a Tramper and enjoy those sweeping moorland views. Bellever Forest provides a great contrast from the intimacy of being surrounded by trees to openings that provide panoramic views and the trail is perfect for first timers. We’re so grateful to Dartmoor National Park Authority for investing in making this service possible for visitors. We’ve already had great feedback from early users and hope many more will be encouraged to visit soon”
