Accessibility really does matter – and that was proved yesterday when we found out our project has won big and topped the Heritage category of the National Lottery Awards!
We were absolutely blown away when Sally Phillips, actress and comedian surprised us all by presenting us with the prestigious trophy in the beautiful setting of Cockington Country Park in Torquay. To add to the ‘wow’ factor, a plane flew above towing a banner that read ‘HERITAGE ABILITY YOU HAVE WON!’
We’ve beaten over 700 projects that applied to be in with the chance of winning the coveted award. Today we’ve celebrated by popping the cork on the non-alcoholic champagne!
Maryann Soper, Project Manager said:
“The proof is in the votes– we were up against some really big competitors in the heritage category and this is wonderful recognition for the hard work of the team and all our partner sites working to change the tourism industry for the better. Accessibility means better visitor attractions, family experiences, inclusion and happier people! We’re working tirelessly across the South West and we hope that many more visitor destinations will want to follow our footsteps so we can make a more inclusive tourism industry for everyone.”
A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us in the campaign and supported us – without you this win wouldn’t have been possible. We just can’t believe it!
