Located just outside Upminster, Thames Chase Forest Centre provides the perfect starting point for a country escape and the new addition of Tramper hire makes it easier than ever to access the green spaces of this varied site.

Part of the Thames Chase Community Forest which has planted over 1 million trees across the area, the Forest Centre is the main visitor centre and starting point for a network of paths accessible for the Tramper. Whether it’s passing the orchard, taking in distant views of the rolling hills to the north or exploring the peaceful woodlands, this will provide the perfect escape from urban life.

Tramper Routes

All of the main paths at Thames Chase can be safely explored using the Tramper providing you with freedom and flexibility. Whether it’s a quick half hour walk or a longer exploration, strolling around the whole of the site for a couple of hours, you can choose the walk that suits you. You’ll be provided route information when you hire the Tramper.

Booking the Tramper

Tramper hire is available Monday to Sunday on first come, first served basis (10.15am-3pm).

No requirement to book – enquire to hire one of the two Trampers when you arrive at the Forest Centre. If you are not currently a member of Countryside Mobility then you’ll be signed up as part of the introduction to the Tramper.

The Trampers are hired from the Forest Centre where the friendly team will help you. It’s also the home to the popular cafe, information and a small shop. Two accessible toilets are available – one close to the cafe and another at the other side of the Forest Centre which includes a quiet area. Cycle hire is also available on the first weekend of each month, including adapted cycles for wheelchair users and visitors with additional needs

Thames Chase is managed in partnership with Forestry England. The Trampers for this centre have been provided thanks to support from DEFRA’s ‘Access for All’ funding.
