Roadford Lake

NEW FOR 2024!

In the rolling countryside on the Devon Cornwall border lies the spectacular Roadford Lake, the largest area of freshwater in South West England. Fringed by woodlands this provides a great place to explore by Tramper.

With a popular cafe with views across the lake to enjoy with delicious refreshments and a convenient location just off the A30 this provides the perfect combination for day out or a break in your journey.

Tramper Routes

Explore the lakeside and woodlands of Gaddacombe Head taking in the iconic sundial sculpture built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. You’ll enjoy breathtaking views across the lake as you go around the peninsula and can then explore the woodland on your return back towards the visitor centre.

Alternatively, a linear route takes you along the top of the dam at the southern end of Roadford Lake and along the first part of the western shore to a bench with far reaching views across the lake.

Booking the Tramper

Advance booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Call the South West Lakes Trust Head Office – 01566 771930 – or email info@swlakestrust.org.uk to book ahead ensuring that you explain when you would like to hire the Tramper.

Hire fee: £5 for 2 hours (collected by South West Lakes Trust towards the cost of offering this service).

If you are not already a member of Countryside Mobility you will also need to take out a Countryside Mobility membership which then acts like a license to explore the full hire network.

On Arrival

The Tramper is hired out from the main visitor centre/ cafe located at the south end of the lake. There is a car park which includes accessible spaces closest to the entrance (approx 100m walk on a level, surfaced path).

Car parking operates on an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) basis and costs just £2.50 for 2 hours or £5 for the day, which contributes to the maintenance of the lakes. There is no entrance fee.
