National Trust Brean Down
A ‘natural pier’ nearly 100 metres high stretching over a mile into the Bristol Channel, Brean Down offers spectacular coastal views.
The Tramper overcomes the steep climb up to the top of Brean Down with ease and then allows you to travel along the top of the Down enjoying views across North Somerset, Gloucestershire and the Severn Estuary. At the end of the promitory you’ll have the chance to explore the Victorian, Palmerston Fort as you look across the Bristol Channel with stunning views of the islands of Steep Holm and Flat Hom. Returning along Brean Down you enjoy views inland across the Somerset Levels as far as Glastonbury Tor.
Come back and enjoy refreshments at the National Trust’s cafe or browse in the shop.

Important Information on visiting Brean Down:
Near the beginning of the route there is a gate which must be unlocked to gain access. All users must therefore be accompanied unless they have the mobility to do unlock the gate on their own. Likewise the steep gradient at the start and end of the route means that all first time users must be accompanied (and maximum weight for the Tramper user is 20 stone). (The gate will be replaced with an easy opening gate over the coming year).
