Cleeve Common
NEW FOR 2025!
Take in panoramic views from the highest hill in Gloucestershire as you explore the largest area of common land in The Cotswolds.
At over 1,000 feet (330 metres) Cleeve Common offers a spectacular experience. Managed by the Cleeve Common Trust, it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and conservation area it also has significant historic interest with 3 Scheduled Monuments. Whether it’s looking over the Severn Valley towards the Forest of Dean, Black Mountains and Malvern Hills, south towards Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Bristol Channel or north towards Winchcombe, the Tramper route provides ever changing views.
The Tramper route is around 2 miles long with an option to shorten. In the long term it is hoped to offer extended options.
Dogs – Please note that the common is used for grazing sheep from April to November. During this period dogs should be kept on leads. For further information on dog walking please visit this page and scroll down to the relevant section.
Hiring the Tramper – Pre Booking Essential
The Tramper hire scheme at Cleeve Common is an initiative of the Cleeve Common Trust, with assistance from the Golf Club which is acting as the hire location. (Note that the phone/ email details below therefore relate to the Cleeve Common Trust rather than Golf Club).
Due to limited staffing at the Golf Club where the Tramper is hired from, it is strongly recommended to book ahead and essential for first time users becoming members of Countryside Mobility.
Follow this link to visit the booking page where payment for the Countryside Mobility membership is also taken. (No payments can be taken at the hire location).
There is no hire fee at this location.
Facilities at The Golf Club
The Golf Club has an excellent cafe offering hot and cold refreshments (you don’t need to be a member/ using the golf club) to enjoy before or after your hire. There are toilets but no dedicated accessible toilet.
For both the cafe and toilets there are two steps that need to climbed (a hand grab is present to help). The nearest public accessible toilet is in Winchcombe around 7 minutes drive from the Golf Club.
The Golf Club is due for redevelopment in the coming year and, when completed, will offer improved accessible facilities.
