Postbridge Visitor Centre provides the start and end point for your hire and provides a range of displays and exhibitions to give you an extra insight into the landscape that you are exploring. The Visitor Centre staff will be happy to share their knowledge of the local area while facilities include accessible parking and an accessible toilet. More details about the Visitor Centre here. There is a picnic area and the nearby village of Postbridge offers a range of options for refreshments.
The Route
You’ll follow a beautiful route which lasts for around 4km (2.5 miles) and takes you on a circuit that takes in forest tracks and panoramic views. While today the location feels like an escape from the crowds the forest includes many examples of people living here in the past with over 30 hut circles in the Forest during the Bronze Age (4,000 to 2,600 years ago).
Mainly gravel tracks apart from some rough grass and unsurfaced path sections halfway round.
Due to inconsistent mobile signal all Tramper users currently need to be accompanied at this location.
Hiring The Tramper
The Tramper will available to hire from the Visitor Centre. Contact the Visitor Centre direct to reserve the Tramper.
The Tramper can be hired between 10:30 am and 12:30pm with a hire period of up to 2 hours.
There is no hire fee but a donation of £5 per hire is invited to help cover the running costs of this service.
Centre opening – daily 10am – 5pm (June – August), 10am – 4pm (September – October)
Car parking – The Visitor Centre has a car park including accessible spaces. Charges apply for all spaces (card payment at payment machine or RingGo app).
Toilets – Toilets (including an accessible toilet) are available at the Visitor Centre.
