National Trust Stonebarrow

Enjoy panoramic views along the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site at this spectacular location at the west end of the Golden Cap Estate.

The routes start and end at the Old Radar Station Compound National Trust Stonebarrow where you can hire a Tramper to take out on the trails. The Tramper is normally available from April to the end of October.

Golden Cap viewpoint

The route takes you to a lovely viewpoint where you can see across to Lyme Regis in the west and Golden Cap (the highest point on the Southwest coast) to the east. Birds including stonechats and occasionally the Dartford Warbler can be seen, as well as a variety of seabirds offshore and butterflies too

Cains Folly viewpoint

A circular route around Stonebarrow Hill, taking in views of Lyme Regis, Devon and the route back to the base rewards you with distant views of Golden Cap. Bird song, wind rustling through the gorse and dappled sunlight are some of the highlights on this trail. In the spring and summer there are carpets of wildflowers including orchids.

Hire info (CASH ONLY LOCATION)

The Tramper is available seven days a week (weather permitting), booking in advance is advisable.

Remember that, to hire the tramper, you will need to be a member of Countryside Mobility if you aren’t already. Choose either an annual membership for £15 or 2 week Taster (ideal for holidays) membership for £5. A single session option is also available for £3.

  • State the date and time you would like to borrow the tramper
  • If you are currently a member or not of Countryside Mobility
  • Please include a telephone number you maybe reached on to discuss your booking
  • Your booking is only confirmed once you have received a confirmation email.

Refreshments, Parking & Toilets

Crazy Cow – a small barista coffee trailer offering hot drinks, homemade cakes, cream teas and ice creams is available at the Old Radar Station compound. Open 7 days week April to September and weekends in October.

Parking is free for National Trust members (bring your NT membership card) but for non members can be paid for by coins or PayByPhone. There are designated accessible spaces close to the Old Radar Station where the Tramper is hired from.

Toilets (including an accessible toilet) are open 7 days a week from April to September and weekends in October by the Old Radar Station.
