National Trust Hive Beach

Enjoy one of the most popular and scenic stretches of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

Hive Beach, just outside of the pretty village of Burton Bradstock, is a popular destination whether it’s setting off on a coastal walk, enjoying the beach or dining at the famous Hive Beach Cafe.

Tramper hire now provides an opportunity for visitors who would otherwise find walking difficult to be able to access and enjoy the paths and views with friends and family. The routes start and end at the National Trust Welcome Hut conveniently located next to the car park (charges apply for visitors who are not National Trust members).

Please note that this hire location is currently cash only – card payments cannot be accepted.

Tramper Routes

  • Bindbarrow – A short linear route heading east from the beach up the South West Coast Path. This route is the perfect introduction to using the Tramper and gives an excellent viewpoint to the west where you can see the Burton Cliffs, Golden Cap and beyond.
  • Burton Cliff – A linear route heading west from Hive beach along the South West Coast Path. At the high point there is a marvellous panorama. Further into the west is Golden Cap. To the east is the yellow stretch of Chesil Beach to Portland Bill. Look for the plants that cling to the cliff edge, including thrift, common mallow and wild clary. Look for herring gulls and fulmars nesting on the ledges below, or dolphins swimming close to the shore. Please note that due to the presence and nature of the gates along this route, there is currently a requirement for all users to be accompanied.
