With sweeping views across the South Somerset Levels, Mendip Hills and as far as Exmoor, Ham Hill is the perfect place to enjoy nature and history.
The spectacular vantage point was once home to one of the largest Iron Age hillforts in the United Kingdom and the new Visitor Centre provides refreshments and information to get the most out of your visit. Ham Hill is also home to the Prince of Wales pub with panoramic views.
Away from the panoramic views there is a rich habitat made up of wildflower meadows with over 2,300 different plants and animals that call the site home.
As well as Tramper hire accessible facilities include accessible parking and toilets (including a Changing Places facility).
Car parking is free of charge and there is no admission fee.
Hiring the Tramper
Advance booking is the only way to guarantee Tramper availability. You can reserve a Tramper via the Discover Wild Somerset website. Due to there being only 1 Tramper and limited staff capacity, hiring without booking in advance cannot be guaranteed.
A range of Tramper routes of different lengths are available:
Northern Spur – Spectacular views, a modern day stone circle, nature and heritage combine to make this a very popular option (1.6 miles/ 2.6 km)
Butcher’s Hill – You’ll understand why Ham Hill was the perfect location for an Iron Age hill fort as you pass through the woods and out onto peaceful wildflower meadows looking out over views to the south (1.4 miles/ 2.2 km)
The Meadows – Once the home to Roman and Iron age communities they are now a rich habitat for the park’s wildlife. These meadows provide a real escape and sense of space (1.75 miles/ 3km)
There is a hire fee of £2.50/ hour with morning and afternoon hires available 7 days a week – 9:30 to 11:30am or 1:30 to 3:30pm
