Kernock Cottages

Kernock Cottages in the Lynher Valley, Cornwall offers five restored barns set in a 25-acre private estate. All the cottages have been awarded the luxury 5* Gold rating by Visit Britain, the highest award in self-catering holiday accommodation. All 5 luxury cottages are high quality, spacious, comfortable and flexible, sleeping 2, 4, 6, 8 people, or 10 if Owl and Tree are booked together, see The Roost. (plus cots if required).

Heather Barn (sleeps 4) - Luxury 5* accessible holiday cottage (NAS M3(a) rated) -  Set in its own orchard garden on the edge of our 25- acre estate, Heather Barn is a spacious (1000 sq ft) single-storey conversion offering accessible accommodation of the highest standard.  The cottage is all on one level, so is perfect for the less mobile guest, for wheelchair users and for toddlers.  Both bedrooms are ensuite - bedroom 1 has a level-entry wetroom and stylish chrome and stainless steel DocM fittings.  Bedroom 2 has a shower bath.  In both bedrooms, the beds have pocket sprung ziplink mattresses and can either be arranged as a superking double or as twin beds.  Internal doorways are all 840mm wide and there is space in all rooms for turning circles of 1200-1500mm.  The large (480 sq ft) open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area is double height, with exposed beams, quadruple doors and a part-glass roof, creating a really light an airy space with great views over the orchard garden to the far hills. 

The style is modern - comfortable chocolate leather sofas and hardwood furniture.  The solid oak kitchen is superbly equipped with coffee machine, microwave, ceramic hob, fan oven, washer/dryer, dishwasher, quality pans, crockery and cutlery, and everything you need to cook up a storm!  Heather Barn also has a strong sustainability bias, with air-source heat pump powered underfloor heating, bamboo flooring and low energy bathroom lighting. 

Outside, the level entry south-west facing terrace has great views over the orchard garden to the hills beyond.  There is exterior lighting, a built-in barbeque, hardwood table and chairs and a private lawn area, as well as plenty of parking. Heather Barn is a great holiday cottage in Cornwall for a family with toddlers or less mobile guests. 

Orchard Cottage (sleeps 8) is a Luxury 5* accessible holiday cottage (NAS M2 rated) has a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, so while not suitable for wheelchair users (as the toilet doesn’t have the right transfer space) it is very suitable for those with walking aids and frames, as it is all on the level on the ground floor (there is a 2” threshold at the front door, but other than that all is on a level), and meets the NAS M2 criteria. The other four cottages all have stairs, and as such are unsuitable for wheelchairs. It sits in a private garden with large terrace, hardwood furniture and barbeque.  Steps lead down from the terrace level to the big lawn, which wraps around the house.

Downstairs there is a lovely airy double-aspect sitting room, with French windows onto the terrace and fabulous views.  There is an open fire for cosy winter evenings - perfect for an Autumn break  or a wonderful family Christmas and New Year. The Dining room has a large oak table which extends to seat up to 12 people - great for family celebrations.  The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge-freezer, 5-ring gas burner, oven, microwave, washing machine and dryer and extras like a coffee machine and blender.  Masses of glasses, beautiful porcelain tableware and inspirational cookbooks mean you can create fantastic feasts for the family.  There is also a downstairs double bedroom with kingsize bed, and a downstairs bathroom with shower.

Upstairs, the airy master bedroom has a superking size bed with matching furniture, a dressing area and an ensuite shower room.  Bedroom 2 has a kingsize double and matching furniture.  Bedroom 3 can either be set up as a superking double or as twin beds.  There is space in bedrooms 1 and 3 for a cot if required.  The large family bathroom has a bath and a separate shower.  The big airing cupboard can be used for storing suitcases or drying towels.

There is only a small charge if you would like to bring your dog.

Inside the holiday cottages - In all cottages except Orchard Cottage, every holiday cottage bedroom has an ensuite bath or shower room and most can be arranged as king-sized or twin rooms. Orchard Cottage has an ensuite master bedroom, large family bathroom with separate bath and shower, and downstairs bathroom with shower. Features include oak, bamboo and Rhodesian teak flooring, beamed ceilings, rugs and a mix of contemporary and antique furniture, paintings and sculptures making each cottage comfortable and unique. Each cottage is equipped with a CD player, iPod dock, flatscreen television with DVD and freeview, radio alarms in the bedrooms, board games and books for lazy days in.

Outside the cottages - Outside each holiday cottage you'll find a private garden, well-lit terrace, built-in barbeque area and hardwood furniture. There are 28 beautiful acres of mature gardens, woodland, paddocks and fields to explore, an adventure playground for children, and lots to do locally.

The cottage kitchens - Each kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washer-dryer, oven, microwave, ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, coffee maker, blender and a full complement of kitchen equipment and cookery books.

For babies and toddlers - Kernock cottages are baby friendly cottages. For babies, cots, baby duvets, sterilisers, high chairs, booster seat, bouncy chair, monitor,  Bumbo,  baby bath,  bath seat,  bed rail, playpen and  stairgates can all be provided, which frees up the boot space, and babysitting can also be arranged on request.
