COUNTRYSIDE MOBILITY WINS GOLD AWARD AT THE 2014 VISIT DEVON TOURISM AWARDS! The charity Living Options Devon’s Countryside Mobility scheme has won a Gold award in the ‘Access and Inclusivity’ category at this year’s Visit Devon Tourism Awards. The award comes towards the end of a very successful year for the scheme. James Maben, Project Manager for Countryside Mobility, was thrilled with the result saying: “2014 has been a great year for us with a growth in the number of partner sites involved and record numbers of people benefiting from the service. Winning this prestigious award is a real stamp of approval from the tourism industry and the icing on the cake at the end of a bumper year. We are delighted to have received this recognition but even more pleased to be able to open up many new locations to people with limited mobility.”
Run by the charity Living Options Devon, the Countryside Mobility scheme helps to make some of the South West’s top tourist attractions and countryside locations accessible to people with limited mobility. The scheme has already successfully sited all-terrain mobility scooters known as ‘Trampers’ and wheelchair accessible ‘Wheelyboats’ at a wide range of countryside locations across the South West.
Diana Crump, Living Options Devon’s Chief Executive was thrilled with the news commenting: “It is an honor that Countryside Mobility won Gold at the Visit Devon Awards and Living Options Devon feels extremely proud to host such an innovative and important regional access for all project. Countryside Mobility makes a real difference to disabled visitors and locals across the South West, and we are proud that more and more attractions are working with us to ensure that the region is accessible for all. Our huge thanks go to all our partners whose enthusiasm and commitment have been key to the success of this scheme.” Countryside Mobility was presented with the gold award at a black tie ceremony held at the Highbullen Hotel in Devon.
